The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve in Henderson Nevada near Las Vegas Nevada is a converted water treatment facility that now serves as a bird sanctuary. It lies north of Henderson next to the Las Vegas Wash. Nine ponds make up the preserve, and a network of trails winds along the levees separating the ponds. Depending on the season, you can find a variety of shorebirds, waterfowl, waders, and passerines there. It being late spring on my visit there were American Avocets, American Coots, Black-Tailed Gnatcatchers, Canada Geese, Crissal Thrashers, Eared Grebes, Mallards, Ruddy Ducks, Snowy Egrets, Verdin, and Wilson’s Phalaropes.
