Dark-Eyed Junco

(Junco hyemalis)

Description:

Chickadees dominated the scene where I waited for rosy finches, but a few juncos came in as well, and I thought they appeared to be the Gray-Headed variety, but a friend has suggested the bird here may be a Red-Backed Junco, and I tend to agree. I drove to the Sandia Crest (elevation 10,600′) outside of Albuquerque, to discover what high elevation birds I might encounter.
