Eastern Meadowlarks are best distinguished from their western cousin by their softer song. The open grassy bottom land at the site of the last battle of the Civil War called Palmito Hill, near Brownsville Texas, was a peaceful location to meet Scissor-Tailed Flycatchers and Eastern Meadowlarks.
