Sora – Porzana carolina

Yesterday’s visit at this place was just not enough to take it all in, so I opted to stay another day. My drive took me nearly completely around the valley, and I managed to get a better idea of what treasures might be possible here. I’m sure the seasons influence the visitors we might find.

Bicknell Bottoms is a 670 acre reserve along the marshy lowland south of Bicknell Utah. I found many marsh specialists in the bottomlands near the Fremont River. Farmers use most of the land in this valley for agriculture. Finches and sparrows seemed plentiful where the agricultural lands transitioned to the residential areas in the town of Bicknell, but I found many marsh specialists in the bottomlands near the Fremont River. Some birds I encountered were Barn Swallow, Cinnamon Teal, Cliff Swallow, Marsh Wren, Mountain Bluebird, Sandhill Crane, Savannah Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, Sora, Swainson’s Hawk, Tree Swallow, Virginia Rail, Western Kingbird, Yellow-Headed Blackbird, Red-Winged Blackbird and Yellow-Rumped Warblers (both Audubon’s and Myrtle).
