Butterfly and Moth Meetings
38 Subjects, 109 Images
On my travels I tend to seek meetings with bird species to photograph. Since 2001, birds have dominated my attention. But when other aspects of the natural world present themselves, I am easily distracted. While not as passionate as some of my close friends about Lepids (slang for “Lepidoptera“), I am easily seduced by the sight of a wandering butterfly. There seems to be no limit to their beauty. Science has described more than 174,000 species occupying every continent except Antarctica.
I fall short in my familiarity with insect identification, but my curiosity leads me to attempt identifying any species I photograph. Using online resources is often my only means of identifying my subjects. Sometimes I get it wrong. Sometimes the kindness of others more knowledgeable than me elevates my understanding when I am confused. I welcome corrections to my mistakes when others offer them kindly.
The galleries below are a ‘work-in-progress’. Hopefully, in the future, I can add useful information and range maps to each gallery.
