Memories of Fort Lowell Park, Tucson

I’ve enjoyed chasing birds at various venues around Tucson. I have been there many times. One location I visited briefly was Fort Lowell Park. This is a small park with a swimming pool, tennis courts, and ball fields. But nestled in its northwestern quadrant, at 2900 North Craycroft Road, is a section of tree-lined grass fields and a pond. On 2008-11-25, I paid this humble park a visit. With very little effort, I found over-wintering waterfowl to entertain me.

Being located near the lower slopes of the Catalina Mountains, I suspect there might be a few of the local endemic passerines and winter visitors present. But during my brief visit, I was content with the ducks I met on the pond. I met Ring-Necked Ducks, American Wigeons, and Northern Shovelers while there. I’d like to visit this location again one day, and see what other species I might encounter.
