Memories of Palm Canyon

Map – Palm Canyon, Borrego Springs

The residents of Borrego Springs collect their drinking water from Palm Canyon. Hikers can enjoy a 2.9-mile loop trail from the desert floor that ascends the canyon. After a 700 foot elevation gain, you will find a running stream over giant granite boulders, and a grove of California Fan Palms (Washingtonia filifera). If you had never hiked the trail, it would be hard to imagine the oasis only 1.5 miles up slope.

To find this place requires a drive into the state park from Palm Canyon Drive. After paying the required fee at the entry point for the campground, continue up slope and look for the signs for the trailhead parking. Take plenty of drinking water, and choose a time when the summer heat is not a problem.
