I have visited Tucson Arizona often, and have found it a town with many venues suitable for chasing bird-life. On 2008-11-27, I traveled there for Thanksgiving with family in Tucson. I took the opportunity to check out Reid Park.

Located at the southern end of the city next to the zoo, there are 131 acres of grass, ponds, and scattered trees. Those few autumn hours I spent were enough to sniff the air, but given the opportunity to sample the seasons, I believe there could be birds I missed that could be present at various times of the year.

Reid Park is a ‘people park’. With my visit being on a holiday, there were a lot of bipedal activities going on. I began my visit by focusing on the ponds, where I found several species to enjoy, including Canvasbacks and American Wigeons.

Zoos can sometimes provide opportunities to find local birds freeloading on the food and shelter these places can provide. With that hope in mind, I turned my attention to the entrance, and paid my fees, then spent several hours exploring the grounds. Some natives I found were Black-Crowned Night-Herons, House Sparrows, and Inca Doves.

It seems I had no self-control, and I couldn’t resist photographing some of the captive creatures, as well as the natives I found on the zoo’s grounds.
