Cardinals, Grosbeaks & Buntings

12 Subjects, 353 Images

Most scientists consider Cardinals, Buntings, and Grosbeaks to be related. Scientists formerly considered buntings closely related to sparrows and longspurs. Today, taxonomists see them as more related to cardinals and grosbeaks. Images here include Lazuli, Indigo, Snow, Painted, Varied and Lark Buntings. The Snow Bunting displayed here holds a special place in the hearts of birders in San Diego, as it was the 500th bird species documented in San Diego County. Some scientists believe that Blue Grosbeaks belong in this group, but for now I have them on display in the Grosbeaks album.
